Joint Municipal Area

The Joint Municipal Area is made up of eight parcels and was created on June 13, 2025 by an Agreement for conditional transfer of certain property between Sylvan Township and Lima Township.

 The Joint Municipal Area Planning Commission (JMAPC)

The JMAPC is made up of 6 members. The Township Boards of Sylvan Township and Lima Township shall each appoint two of its Planning Commission members and one township board member as members of the Joint Planning Commission.

The Joint Municipal Area Planning Commission has four scheduled meetings each year and meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 5:00 pm, unless rescheduled or cancelled due to a lack of necessary business. The four meetings in 2026 are as follows:

  2. April 22 2026
  3. June 24 2026
  4. August 27 2026

If additional meetings are necessary to conduct business the JMAPC will try to set any special meeting on the fourth Wednesday of the Month.

The public may only speak during the public hearing and during public comment by being physically present at the meeting. Such comments will be limited to three minutes per person for each item. Written comments may also be sent to the township offices at 18027 Old US 12, Chelsea, Michigan 48118-9673 prior to the public hearing will also be received by the Planning Commission at the meeting before close of the public hearing.

PLEASE NOTE: ANY ITEM FOR JOINT MUNICIPAL AREA PLANNING COMMISSION AGENDA THAT NEEDS ENGINEERING OR PLANNING CONSULTANTS REVIEW SUCH AS SITE PLANS, SPECIAL USE REQUESTS, SUBDIVISIONS AND SITE CONDO’S, NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DEADLINE FOR AGENDA DATE (NOTED BELOW), TO THE TOWNSHIP CLERK.

RE-ZONING REQUESTS MUST BE MADE 6 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING DATE.
